2'50.214'' is a photographic project realised from the 24th November 2017 to the 23rd November 2018 : one year with one picture every day

November 26

It's been a few days I got this new camera. Few days I always carry it on me, in a pocket or a bag.
Three days actually.
And it's been three days I take pictures on a daily basis. But for how long ?
A month ?
A season ?
A year ?

A year seems great.

But one year is long. And based on experience... Beginning, progress, first difficulties, more progress, then weariness. And then, abort.

Come on, I can try at least. A project, an experience, an exercise... a principle ! A principle is great, it affects values. And honour.
But, I know myself, a principle that will last three days as soon as, tomorrow, I'll forget to take a picture.

Winter is here. Paris is grey. Or black.
For a couple of days I only have few takes during the day. However, I like night photography, but in the long run... And I wanted to work with colours ! Now I'm forced to evolve in black and white.

In black and grey

There's this movie theater near our apartment. I walk next to it, every night. Part of the daily routine. Even though what I'm searching for is here :

Colours, Paris the city of lights.
Even in the middle of winter.

March 2

Some evenings, while leaving my job, the sky is flattering. Sometimes orange, red or yellow. Tonight it's pink and blue. Bright.
So I'm looking for an image, a frame.
Something new. Because I have many takes at the end of the day, in this district. But tonight I can't find anything suitable for me.

Before entering completely in this metro station, I look backwards. The sky stayed the same. And there is this tree.
Naked in urban.
It's here.
But not enough.
I like to include local people in the frame. I wish a man to pass, with a hat. It's in season, the weather is still cool.

I'll wait.

Few people use the stairs. But neither in my frame, nor at the proper speed. It gives me the opportunity to adjust my position, and the camera settings.

Here he is. He climbs down the stairs. In a hurry. But I'm ready. Got it. It's perfect.
Well, no. The shades of the sky are not as bright as earlier.
Never mind.

June 9

I go for a walk. Since a few days I'm in the second half of this adventure. The most difficult part has been done. Well...

...maybe only the longest part.

Whatever.

Today I waited for this cyclist. He going threw the frame. The shot is taken and I'm really satisfied with it.
I'm able to continue my walk with a free mind. It's still early and I have the opportunity to decide where I want to go to enjoy the rest of the day.

For the interest of the location, not its photogenic attractiveness.

Tomorrow is a new mission. In the meantime let's enjoy the day. While walking, I realise the weight of this performance. Never mind, on the whole, I am satisfied. And as the today's picture, I think some images are worth imposing this exercise to me.

Some days might have been clearly less satisfying.
Like a wine. With its successful vintages. And the perfectible ones.

If I have to justify, I would say external factors are predominant.
A favourable weather is a key element in the success of a cuvée.
The success of a picture is based on sufficient time.
Sometimes my time is running out.
It's part of the game.

August 6

Between Capurgana and Sapzurro.

Even this sentence illustrates the gap between thoses weeks in Colombia and the rest of my project. But is it necessary to put the finger on it ?

It's done now.

September 1st

I've lost some groundings.
Moving away from Paris made me feel good. But I have difficulties to get back on track with my project. Since few days I'm no longer able to integrate people in my pictures. However I didn't face this trouble during the last weeks abroad.

Is taking pictures of people more legitimate once far from home ?

It's easier for sure.

But unjustified.
I already hesitated and know this feeling well. Social life, and its rules, is constraining us to not interfere in others private sphere. Everyday I feel the boundaries of thoses spheres. Specific for everyone. With variable sizes.
But it can't be limiting. Based on my experience I know it's always possible to include people in my photographs. Without a word, a simple look is enough.
While starting this challenge I was convinced I would have deal with one or more conflictual situations.
A man. Only. Himself a photographer.
We talked, he wanted to understand my project. Although he encouraged me, he didn't want to appear on the picture I just took.

I have to put people back in the frame.
Tomorrow maybe.

The city is the stage. Pedestrian is the actor.
The scene is created by their interaction.
I'm the spectator of a unique act, played in improv.

Posters
Graffitis
Lightning
Their creators are the scenographers.

I love urban and its aesthetics. Its theatrical dimension. I love what is played there every day, every night.
